THE CONFERENCE
updated on 5th May 2020

Within our Project “Women, Families, Careers – a Civil Society Forum in the V4 Spirit” we are going to organize a Conference in Budapest in second half of 2020.
The main patron of the conference will be Mrs. Katalin Novák, Minister of State for Family and Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Human Capacities.
At this Conference we are going to
launch a Forum as a V4 Civil Society Initiative to help promote women’s employment. There will be particular emphasis on the balance between work and private/family life, with special regard to the values of our region and its sustainability.
As our main objective we are going to establish common opinion and formulate a Joint Statement / Recommendation based on the Conference and results of an electronic survey.
As a follow-up to the conference, the Joint Statement / Recommendation will help position the views and suggestions of the V4 countries on this vital subject within the larger EU and UN communities.

Background information:
Originally, we started planning our project in "peace time" in January this year. The coronavirus pandemic has unfolded in the meantime, consequently  the conference's originally scheduled date of  May must be postponed and also the focus and priorities will change.
In the “new world” after the pandemic, we need to find answers and solutions to the challenge of re-employing women who have lost their jobs as a result of the crisis.

In line with our contract all arrangements have been made to hold the conference "Women, Families, Careers – a Civil Society Forum in the V4 Spirit” on 15 May 2020.
Mrs. Katalin Novák, Minister of State for Family and Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Human Capacities confirmed she would be the main patron, but she could not come in person on the day of the conference. Dr. Attila Beneda, Deputy State Secretary would have made the opening address on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources.
As a result of the coronavirus, on March 9, 2020 we cancelled the date of May 15 with the Gellért Hotel. We plan a new date of 28 August 2020 for the conference but this is not fixed yet.

Following the coronavirus pandemic, huge changes in the economy and labor market are to be expected in the world, in our region and in Hungary. Our whole life, our attitudes will change, and expectations and priorities will be different. We are convinced however that the importance of family support and the role of women in the labor market will not change in the V4 countries’ governmental policies. At the moment, we cannot predict when the organization of our conference will be possible.

We hope that the new date planned for 28 August 2020 is possible, but we have to recognize that we may need to postpone the conference again. Unfortunately, the organization of our Survey, which is planned in close connection with the Conference, must be also suspended for the time being.
However, the professional and technical preparation of the conference can only take place on the merits of the case and when the new date is certain.

We intend however to spend this interim period actively pursuing our mission
"Lifelong learning and Lifelong networking".
As we develop ourselves, we nurture and deepen our personal and professional relationships so that we can be better prepared, when the time for work and actions comes again.

We are fortunate to have modern tools to maintain our virtual human and business relationships in this extraordinary situation, and the role of virtual tools will become even more important in many areas, e.g. in education and design process.
But when life, hopefully soon, returns to normal, we can enjoy again the irreplaceable experience of personal encounter and exchange of ideas.
Our organization has organized about 40 international conferences and workshops so far and intend to continue our activities in this field.

Hopefully, we can contribute to the post-pandemic economic recovery program with our  "Women, Family and Career - Civil Forum in the Spirit of V4" conference to promote women's employment, in line with the importance of family background with special regard to the values of our region and its sustainability.
